Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television reporter, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started in the field of radio and television reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington correspondent. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. She was made the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV program Meet the Press and also host of the show. She served as a panelist in the 1988 presidential debates with George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in the field of journalism. In 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell started covering the White House in 1981-1988, in both the Reagan presidency. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal as well as fiscal tax reforms, and the arms control. She traveled along with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan on numerous occasions to summits and debate matters such as the Iran Contra controversy.
